Sujaya Rathi, Principal Research Scientist, CSTEP, made a presentation on “Fitting Plans – Structure Plan & Master Plan, CTTP, CMP & Policies at a workshop on Urban Transport (Mobility Strategies for Bangalore), organised by State Institute for Urban Development (SIUD) on 26th November 2013. Shrimoyee Bhattacharya and Anantha Lakshmi P, Senior Research Engineers from CSTEP also attended the workshop. In the one day workshop speakers presented on various aspects:

CSTEP emphasised on the need for dovetailing and synchronising various plans such as the structure plan/ regional plan, Comprehensive Traffic and Transportation Study (CTTS), master plan, Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), with each other in terms of their spatial alignment, jurisdiction, timing, strategies and proposals. As an immediate measure, CSTEP highlighted the need for updating the CTTS to CMP for Bangalore Metropolitan Area, simultaneously with preparation of revised master plan 2031. The need to set up a meaningful platform for participation and evaluation of the coming Master Plan to make it an effective tool for managing urban development was also stressed upon. A brief overview of the planning framework, hierarchy, structure, mandate and purpose of each plan were also given for better understanding of the context.
