Workshop on Modelling Sustainability Date: March 25-26, 2016

Venue: Bengaluru

Venkatesh Vunnam, Senior Research Engineer from CSTEP attended a workshop on Building Energy Modelling for Efficient Design and Sustainable Cooling Technologies, organised by cBalance Solutions and Fair Conditioning in Bengaluru on March 25-26, 2016. Participants at the workshop included practicing architects, students from academic institutes and consultants.

Recognising the importance of energy efficiency in buildings, Vivek Gilani, MD of cBalance highlighted the energy consumption of the building sector (33% of total electricity consumption in India), and the growing demand for air conditioning by the building sector. Urban buildings and commercial built-up structures in India are more energy inefficient as compared to their counterparts in developed nations.

The workshop comprised two formats of training; on the first day, an interactive lecture on Building Sciences and Sustainable Cooling Technologies was conducted. The topics covered as part of this lecture included principles of heat transfer in buildings, weather and climate data, significance of air conditioning and psychometric charts.

The second day was focussed on providing training to architects in a software called Integrated Environmental Solutions: Virtual Environment (IES:VE). The discussions focussed on sharing knowledge about best practices for improving energy efficiency in buildings.
