Workshop on Intelligent Transport System for Sustainable Transportation System and Choices Date: May 28-29, 2013

Sujaya Rathi, Principal Research Scientist, CSTEP, made a presentation on, “Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)”, at a workshop on, “ITS for Sustainable Transportation System and Choices”, held at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Anantha Lakshmi P, Senior Research Engineer, CSTEP, also participated in the workshop. The two-day workshop on 28-29 May was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, IISc, in association with Intel Labs and Transportation Research Group of India (TRG). On day 1 the following speakers presented their research and views on various aspects of the ITS. - “The need for ITS in India”, Dr A Ravindra, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka - “Intel’s Research Agenda in the Context of Collaborative Research Institute for Sustainable and Connected Cities”, Kumar Ranganath, Principal Engineer, Intel Labs, - “Role of TRG in Promoting Transportation Research and Capacity Building in India”, Dr Ashish Verma, Assistant Professor IISc and President TRG The other speakers were from Center for Development of Advanced Computing, The French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks, France, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Imperial College of London and Central Road Research Institute. The 2nd day consisted of a structured discussion by McGill University (Canada), Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions and Tata Consultancy Services. The experts discussed issues related to Traffic Systems, Routing and Transport Models followed in different cities. The various presentations at the workshop will be documented in the form of a report by the participating experts in an effort to carry forward a research agenda to build collaborative projects in this field.
