CSTEP was invited to present at a Workshop on Energy Modelling conducted by the Planning Commission on March 14, 2013. The workshop was chaired by Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission. CSTEP presented its work on DARPAN (DecisionAnalysis for Research and Planning for Energy) and the applicability of computation and visualisation platforms for decision-making in energy policy. DARPAN will be a high power computing platform where numerous energy scenarios can be modelled to explore impact on India’s economy, environment and security. It potentially aids in formulating India’s long term energy strategies and determining the feasibility of renewable energy integration. Apart from CSTEP, the event was attended by teams from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, The Energy Resource Institute and UK-Department of Energy and Climate Change (UK-DECC). The participating institutions discussed their views on national level energy modelling methods and showcased work done by them using several energy modelling tools like UK-DECC pathways calculator 2050, MARKAL etc.
