Content Ranganathan P. (Research Engineer), Subhrajit Debnath (Research Engineer) and Chaitanya Kanth (Research Engineer) from CSTEP attended a workshop, organised by Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College (SRECC), Coimbatore on “Big Data Analytics”. The workshop was attended by students from various colleges around the country and enthusiasts. Talks were given by Mr. Mitesh Khapra from IBM Research, Bangalore and Prof. Sayan Ranu from IIT Chennai on “Deep Learning in Big Data Analytics” and “Trajectory Analytics in Big Data” respectively.
Big Data analytics is a branch of analytics that deals with massive volume of structured and unstructured data that is difficult to process using traditional databases. Analytics on big data involves certain advanced techniques and methodologies to extract value from data. This workshop provided exposure on techniques that can be used in churning out desired information from large volumes of data. This workshop also provided hands-on sessions on installing and configuring Hadoop cluster, part of analysing big data. CSTEP is in possession of a large repository of solar and climate data that needs to be understood for data mining purposes in order to produce results that can be used further in research. This workshop was useful in providing some insights on the same.
