Training on HTML5 Date: April 12 to July 18, 2015

Venue: Bangalore

Bhavna Sharma, Associate-CPE from CSTEP attended a Training Workshop on HTML5 organised and conducted by NIIT, Bengaluru between April 12 and July 18, 2015. The training started with a basic introduction of the course followed by practical sessions. The key learnings pertaining to HTML5 (Hyper Text Markup Language) include:

1. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS): Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the look and format of a document written in Markup language. 2. JavaScript: It is a programming language of HTML and the Web. Programming makes computers do what you want them to do. 3. JQuery: It is a fast, small, and feature-rich JavaScript library. It makes things like HTML document traversal and manipulation, event handling, animation, and Ajax much simpler with an easy-to-use API that works across a multitude of browsers. With a combination of versatility and extensibility, jQuery has changed the way that millions of people write JavaScript.

Based on this training course, Bhavna used the skills and knowledge gained from the programme in the following projects:

1. Created a prototype for CSTEP’s sanitation tool to demonstrate how it looks – for instance, she contributed to the creation of CSTEP’s submission in the competition on “Planetary Urbanism – Critique of the Present in the Medium of Information Design”, consulted by the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). 2. Created and published the Climate Worldwide document on CSTEP’s website. 3. Created a prototype for the CSTEP tool on Triage to help the audience get a better understanding of the tool.
