Almost all parts of the south and south east Rajasthan received moderate to heavy rainfall during last 2-3 days. Farmers started sowing of kharif crops due to receipt of good rainfall. But still western and eastern Rajasthan receivedscanty rainfall by70 and 61% , respectively upto 16th July. The area sown after receipt of latest rain is not reported so far. However, sowing has been started at large scale in south and south eastern parts.. Contingency measures 1. Now avoid sowing of maize and sorghum crops.Take up sowing of blackgram, greengram, clusterbean and sesame. 2. Maize and sorghum can be sow for fodder. The improved varieties for maize (fodder): African Tall, Pratap Makka Chari-6, and for Sorghum (fodder): Rajasthan Chari-1, Rajasthan Chari-2, Pratap Chari-1080, SSG-59-3.

3. The improved varieties of clusterbean is RGC-936, blackgram (RBU-38, T-9), greengram (SML-668, K851), Sesame (RT-46, RT-125). 4. Intercropping of Groundnut variety JL-24 or Pratap mungphali-2 with sesame at 6:2 row ratio under present situation. 5. In eastern and western parts,) only short duration varieties of Bajra (HHB-67, Improved, RHB-121, RHB-90 and Raj-171) can be sown upto 20th July as these varieties are mature in 65-80 days.
