Solution Overview On-Site management solutions built with Intel® vPro™ processor technology gives your customers an easier way to manage their PC assets and reduce their IT costs. Intel vPro processor technology contains a unique management-enabling technology called Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT). Intel AMT consists of dedicated memory, communication channel and isolation hardware that allows authorized IT technicians to access a networked PC, even if the operating system is down or the hard drive has crashed. Intel AMT has been enhanced with its release in Intel vPro processor technology to provide even deeper levels of intrusion detection and more rapid response. Intel vPro processor technology platforms also feature the revolutionary Intel® Core™2 Duo processor technology. Intel vPro processor technology with Intel AMT allows your customers to remotely view their hardware and software assets to ascertain things such as an operating system patch or the upgrade level of each machine. If something goes wrong with a PC, your customers can use Intel AMT to reduce expensive desk-side visits and even to identify and diagnose potential problems before they cause a failure. This on-site PC management solution consists of desktop PCs with Intel® vPro ™ processor technology and Intel® AMT running on a choice of operating environments. The solution requires a Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® 5160 processor based server running either Microsoft Windows Server* 2003 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 with one of the following management software: LANDesk Management Suite, SyAM* Server Monitor Central, Altiris* Manageability Toolkit or Microsoft Systems Management Server. The SyAM* Server Monitor Central configuration runs best with client PCs on Microsoft Windows Vista* Business. The LANDesk* Management Suite configuration runs best with client PCs on Microsoft Windows Vista* Enterprise.

Benefits for Your Customers Reduced Downtime

Peace of Mind

Using Intel® vPro™ processor technology, you can better manage your customers’ desktops and reduce the devastating financial impact of unexpected system downtime. For example, if a fan malfunctions on a PC, you could have the system set up to automatically send you an e-mail alert. An IT technician can quickly swap out the fan, replacing it before the end user even knows that there’s a problem—and before the fan causes the PC to fail.

With Intel® vPro™ processor technology proactively monitoring your customers’ PCs and notifying you of potential problems, your customer can focus more time on running their business and using your valuable technology to maximum advantage.

Do more with Intel® Core™2 Duo and Windows* Vista* The Intel vPro processor technology features the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor with better performance and improved productivity. The Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processor provides unrivaled performance and outstanding power efficiency. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor also supports features for enhanced security, virtualization and 64-bit computing. Users get the Microsoft Vista* advantage with better graphics with Aero, Microsoft’s new graphical user interface for Vista.

Better Protection from Internet Dangers Your customers’ computers will be running the latest virus protection and operating system updates, giving them the assurance that your business critical systems have up-to-theminute protection.

Lower Technology Management Costs Intel® vPro™ processor technology contributes to reduced IT management costs. Managing your customers’ PCs is a costeffective alternative to hiring their own hardware and software experts. And, because you can diagnose and even repair many problems remotely, your customers pay for fewer service calls.

Solution Recipe Desktop Components Business PCs with Intel® Intel® vPro™ vPro™ Processor Technology Desktop PCs with Intel® vPro™ processor technology are the recommended machines for this management solution. Intel vPro processor technology provides maximum performance for business PCs as well as built-in security, power efficiency and management technologies. Intel vPro processor technology delivers the dual-core processing performance needed to run multiple, computer-intensive applications simultaneously with management software running in the background. Intel vPro processor technology uses the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor. Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) requires an Intel vPro processor technologybased system, an Intel® 965G Express Chipset, Intel® PRO/1000 PM network connection and appropriate third-party software. Intel® Intel® Active Management Technology Intel AMT is the innovative Intel® technology that allows you to care for your PCs from a central location. Intel AMT lets you monitor and, in many cases, repair systems, even when the operating system is down, and often without an expensive desk-side visit. Intel AMT highlights include: System Defense: System Defense is another Intel vPro processor technology exclusive. It allows a management console application to define and enforce network security policies. All incoming and outgoing network packets pass through System Defense filters, that enforce adherence to the security policies. If a packet violates one of the policies, System Defense isolates the PC from the network and triggers an alert. Management Agent Software from LANDesk* Software or SyAM* SyAM* Software To communicate with Intel AMT, each of your customers’ desktops need to run management agent software from either Altiris*, Microsoft SMS, LANDesk* Software or SyAM* Software. LANDesk Software is better suited to work with the Windows® XP operating system, while SyAM is better suited to work with Windows® Vista* Business.
