Cold Weather Care is a program dedicated to providing life saving shelter and support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Adams County. The program operates as a 30 day emergency shelter for single individuals and families. While participating in the program, guests receive case management services, which work to support the guests in reaching their goals. The primary goal of the Cold Weather Care program’s participants is attaining self-sufficiency. Cold Weather Care volunteers and staff seek to provide psychosocial and spiritual support for participants while also providing basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. It’s important to know…          

Guests must pass a thorough background screening, individuals with a violent crime on record, a crime against children, or sex offense will not be eligible to participate in Cold Weather Care. Guests must be have 90 days of sobriety. CWC does not accept pets The shelter operates as a network of churches. Every Sunday guests will transition to a new church. Churches in the Thornton/Brighton area take turns hosting our guests. The shelter is closed during the day. Guests are asked to leave at 7:00AM and need to return between 6:00 AND 6:30pm. Guests are asked to return between 5:00 AND 5:30PM on Mondays. The shelter is open only during the Cold Weather months. This season’s shelter is scheduled to close on April 12th. Breakfast, a sack lunch, and dinner is provided each day. Guests must meet for Case Management one time per week. Guests must attend and participate in the Road Home Life Skills course each Monday night which takes place at the church in which they are sleeping. Guests must meet all Case Management goals each week, including attending and participating in the Life Skills course on Monday evenings in order to maintain benefits through the program.

If you are interested in joining the CWC program, please call the intake line and leave a message. If there are beds available, your phone call will be returned Monday-Thursday between 10AM and 5PM and you will be scheduled for an intake interview. Please note: intake appointments are only available based on shelter vacancy and Case Manager’s schedule. CWC intakes only take place Monday-Thursday 10AM-4PM.
