Shuttle begins (athlete/spectator drop off – Door 25) Team Registration (Aux gym) and warm-ups (pool) Opening Ceremonies (Aux gym) Competition and Awards –All awards will take place in Aux Gym Lunch served in Olympic Village Coaches’ Responsibilities

1) Be sure athletes are properly warmed up prior to competition. 2) Coaches MUST carry copies of each athlete’s Application for Participation. 3) POOL DECK WILL BE CLOSED.. Escorted swimmers and coaches with COACH RIBBONS ONLY. 4) The coach is expected to be familiar with Special Olympics sports rules. 5) Questions or concerns about the event should be directed to the SOILL Staff or to the Rules Committee via Head Coach only at Tournament Central. 6) No spectators will be allowed on deck. All spectators must be in the upstairs bleacher area. Elevator available if needed. The coach must be completely familiar with all schedules. It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure that a swimmer is at the bullpen when his/her race is called. Listen to announcements and watch the screen for race numbers being called. GENERAL INFORMATION Parking – ONLY handicap parking is permitted at Metea Valley HS. Located on the east side closest to Door 25. Offsite parking at St John’s Church (2950 Bilter Rd, Aurora) will be available for all other vehicles (buses, mini buses, etc). Shuttle – Beginning at 7:00am will be provided from offsite parking to Metea Valley HS. Athlete and spectators can be dropped off at Door 25 Registration - Coaches only should report to registration table. Photo ID’s will be checked 1 coach per team. Turn in your scratches there. Please be prepared to give the race number for any athlete you are scratching. Opening Ceremonies - Will be in the Auxiliary Gym. Please find your designated CAMP area and be there by 8:35 so we may begin our Opening Ceremonies promptly at 8:45 am. Relay Procedure - All relay swimmers must have the lane and leg of the relay that

they are to swim marked in permanent marker on their left hand or wristband. Please bring your relay swimmers to the relay check-in area at registration between 10 AM– Noon. Divisioning - Update your heat sheet from the copy posted in the Aux GYM. Swimmers will be allowed to compete only in those events/divisions listed on the heat sheet. Please do not ask volunteers to add athletes to an event. Gender and age group may have been combined to provide competition. Questions on how divisioning was done can be answered after the meet at Tournament Central. Times used for divisioning are shown on the heat sheets. WHISTLE at START- Officials will be using the whistle to call swimmers to their start position, followed by the commands and tone start. *STARTS- You may wish to write on athlete’s wristband if they DIVE start. Our volunteers try to ask, but athletes sometime are unsure. Awards—AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED IN THE AUXILLIARY GYM AFTER EACH RACE. Volunteers will escort athletes out of the pool and to the awards area. Please have swimmers stay in the awards area until the medals and ribbons are presented. Coaches should pick up athletes from the awards area. Tournament Central - will be set up near the Team Registration area in the AUX GYM. Problems and questions will be addressed by SO ILL staff and the rules committee at this location. Problems — Protests — Disqualifications - Athletes will be disqualified for rule infractions according to IHSA and Special Olympics rules. We will make every effort to inform coaches and/or athletes of DQ’s immediately after they happen and prior to awards presentation. This is not always possible, but information is accessible to coaches at all times. Rules Committee - Any questions or problems occurring during a race or awards procedure should be taken immediately to the Rules Committee at Tournament Central. Committee include IHSA Aquatics official, MVHS Aq. Director, Clarissa Orr Special Olympics, and a SO certified Aquatics Coach. AAI- We have volunteers that will be checking athletes with Down syndrome for inwater starts. You’ll be expected to follow their requests to have designated swimmers start in the water. Questions or problems should be taken to Tournament Central. Athletes required to start in the water are indicated with a “in water start” on your heat sheet. Medical - In case of emergency, first aid will be available at Aquatics Directors’ office– accessible from the pool deck. Our thanks to ATHLETICO for providing a trainer for today’s event.

Souvenirs - will be available for purchase in the Aux. Gym. Be sure to check out the reasonably priced attractive items that are on hand! *** Bullpen*** - Bullpen is located in the Olympic Village in the Aux. Gym. We will Stage 5 races here– move 2 to pool staging – 1 on deck. Please check the race number on the screen in gym area to make sure you know what event is being SEATED and get your swimmers to the bullpen on time! If a swimmer is not there when the race lines up on deck, he/she will be scratched! Advancement to State Summer Games - First place finishers at today’s meet will be eligible to compete at the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games, June 7-9 at ISU in Normal. (Player Dev. Events do not qualify). Lunch: Will be provided for all swimmers and for coaches on a 1:4 ratio. Turkey sandwich, apple, popcorn and bottled water will be provided. Concessions will be available in the Olympic Village– breakfast and lunch items. Lunches can be picked up as a team—starting at 11:00. BE SURE TO TIME YOUR LUNCH SO THAT SWIMMERS EAT AFTER SWIMMING— OR LEAVE PLENTY OF TIME AFTER EATING BEFORE THEY NEED TO SWIM.
