Careers Resource for Year 10 students about 2019 University entry Rather than Year 10 purchasing the UAC publication about University requirements for 2019 Uni entry, last Thursday information was shown to Year 10 at their year meeting and later that day communicated to students electronically to their school email address about requirements for future University entry. The material also has information that links their interests to potential careers areas, what they might study at Uni and what may be advantageous to study in Years 11 and 12. This is in preparation for their subject selection process early next term. An extract from the material is shown below.

Careers Skills helpful to have for future careers… Some of this article is courtesy of Nathan Chessman, My Career Match email newsletter (25 May 2016) and some from the FYA report: “THE NEW BASICS: Big data reveals the skills young people need for the New Work Order”

Youth unemployment is high, and youth underemployment is even higher, with hundreds of thousands of young Australians struggling to find full time work. Australian employers are hungry for talent but report that they are finding difficulties finding young people with essential workplace skills. These essential workplace skills are ‘enterprise skills’ and this report reveals that employers are placing a premium on these skills at a time of significant change in our workforce. Jobs ads that ask for these enterprising skills are offering significantly higher pay than those jobs not requiring these skills, and employers of younger workers are asking for enterprise skills just as often as role-specific technical skills. What’s more, the jobs of the future demand enterprising skills 70% more than jobs that are at risk of automation. For more information visit, The New Basics Report extracts of which follow…

Careers Our Global Leadership Entry Program (GLEP) is designed for Year 12 students who are deeply engaged with the world and the big issues shaping society. As an extracurricular program undertaken alongside a degree, GLEP will develop and inspire students to be a global leader of tomorrow. Students selected for the GLEP will complete a series of workshops where they will learn about global issues and social challenges that face our world. Students will develop their ability for leadership and global citizenship through self-directed opportunities to volunteer, intern and participate in seminars and conferences in both Australia and overseas. Applications are now open for the GLEP 2017 intake. Students selected for GLEP will receive an early offer for Session 1, 2017. We recognise students are more than an ATAR so we won’t just be assessing applicants on their academic results, but also on their extracurricular achievements and community involvement. If students are successful they’ll be offered a place at Macquarie before they finish Year 12. They’ll also get to participate in exclusive on-campus activities while they’re still at school, as well as gain early access to our facilities. Students will require assistance with completing their application and the Supporting Information Form, which must have endorsement from the College Principal or their nominee. Visit http://www.mq.edu.au/study/high-school-students/getting-into-university/entryschemes-and-pathways/global-leadership-entry-program to learn what degrees students can study with the GLEP, entry requirements and step by step information on how to apply. Students with questions can contact Student Connect via our online enquiry form or call (02) 9850 6410.
