Business Analyst £40,000 to £45,000 per annum 35 hours per week – Cheadle The Organisation UK Biobank is a visionary organisation supporting national and international health research, with the aim of improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of diseases that strike in mid to later life, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and dementia. The organisation is fast becoming a real focus for innovative, exciting health research world-wide and is currently seeking a Business Analyst to join our busy informatics team. The success over the past decade to create a major resource for scientific endeavour has generated multi-million pound investment to improve the resource further – from undertaking key biochemistry assays to genotyping and exome sequencing and an ambitious project to MR image 100,000 participants now under way (the biggest research study of its kind ever undertaken). None of this would be possible without the on-going development of imaginative IT solutions to store and retrieve vast amounts of data safely (while keeping participants’ identity secure) and the commitment of a wide range of some of the world’s most eminent researchers, who advise and guide. Thousands of researchers are now using UK Biobank, and papers are being published in key research journals weekly. The resource relies on maintaining the generous and active support of its volunteer participants to achieve its goal of making major improvements to the health of future generations. You will evaluate business processes, anticipate/gather requirements, uncover areas for improvement, and propose/implement solutions. In addition, you will identify business intelligence, reporting and data analysis requirements for UK Biobank. You will have a degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Science or related field and a minimum of 8 years working in a business analyst role. You will apply your skills and energy for the greater good. To succeed in this role you will need the following skills: ESSENTIAL CRITERIA 1. B.S. degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Science or related field. 2. A minimum of 8 years’ experience in business analysis. 3. The ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine acceptable solutions. 4. Exceptional analytical, conceptual thinking and problem solving abilities. 5. Proficient in the full software development lifecycle. 6. Experience working on complex and business critical systems. 7. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders.

Ability to communicate both written and orally, clearly and persuasively, explaining complicated matters simply, tailoring delivery methods/media to suit the audience’s needs and understanding. Ability to clarify, plan and prioritise own work and that of the others in order to achieve objectives. Ability to work proactively in order to ensure objectives are met in a timely manner. Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic. Must take pride in own work, setting and achieving high standards for self and working with others. Ability to analyse complex problems and propose solutions while satisfying any constraints imposed by the business i.e. resource or time. Ability to consider risks, wider impact of decisions, assessing possible outcomes and their likelihood. Ability to challenge decisions and proposals appropriately to ensure processes are robust. Ability to identify when escalation is required to a more senior level. Demonstrated experience of best practices for organizing, managing and reporting on data. Practical experience in Business Intelligence. Experience creating detailed reports and giving presentations to users and executive management.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA 1. Strong biotech, pharmaceutical or life sciences industry expertise and leadership. 2. Knowledge/experience of standardized quality control pipelines for ensuring data quality, provenance and integrity.
