Raglan Primary School Autumn Term Newsletter No. 4 29th November 2013 Dear Parents I would like to start by thanking everyone for their generous contributions for this year’s Children in Need Appeal. As usual your generosity was overwhelming. We have a very busy half term ahead of us which includes the run up to Christmas. As you would expect there are a number of important reminders and some dates for your diary so please make a note of them & be aware of any changes. Yours sincerely C.A. Sutton Headteacher ADMISSION TO PRIMARY SCHOOL 2014/15 A reminder for parents/carers of children born between 1st September 2009 & 31st August 2010 that the closing date for applications to start in Reception is Wednesday 15th January 2014. If you have an older child already in school you still need to make an application for a sibling. Advice on the application process can be found at http://www.bromley.gov.uk/education/schools.

RAGLAN OPEN MORNING I just wanted to say a quick thank you to all the parents, governors, staff and year 6 pupils who helped out on our annual open morning which was very successful. SCHOOL DINNERS The total due for the period Tuesday 7th January 2014 to Friday 14th February is £58.00. This should be paid by cheque, made payable to ‘Raglan Primary School’ with your child’s name and class on the back. This is due on the first day back after the Christmas break. Please can we remind you that regrettably Lunch options cannot be altered mid term.

POPPY APPEAL We have been advised that Raglan raised £376.59 towards the Poppy Appeal 2013. Well done!

CONGRATULATIONS As you may be aware J’amies Gymnastics held an Interschool’s Gymnastics Competition on Sunday 17th November. Yet again the competition was a huge success with the standard of gymnastics improving each year. As always the Children were impeccably behaved and all really enjoyed the day.I am pleased to announce the Raglan pupil’s were placed as follows: 1st Amelia Mcmillan, Daniel Lloyd, Eamonn Slade 2nd Harry Hannen, Sam Jellett 5th Charlotte Hannen

already been able to work together to share information that will enhance the day to day effectiveness of Raglan Primary School. In time, this will extend to teaching and curriculum development. I will write to advise you of further developments as they arise in the future but would welcome any thoughts that you may have.

The above result with a tied vote for the second parent governor vacancy resulted in an extraordinary meeting being called today of the Governing Body. Governors voted to adopt Mr Robert Harris as a co-opted governor to the Governing Body. Mrs Sandra Worth and Mr Scott George have been voted the elected parent governors. AUTHORISING ABSENCE DURING TERM TIME As you have been advised from September 2013 Headteachers are no longer able to grant leave of absence during term time, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Therefore, we no longer have holiday forms. Should you need to take your child out of school then please write in to the Headteacher. Any holiday taken in term time will be unauthorised. ACADEMY STATUS As you will be aware Raglan Primary School gained academy status on 1st September 2013. The children at Raglan will not have noticed any difference to the day to day running of the school and it will have had no direct effect on them or in deed parents. I would, however, like to keep you all up to date with how Raglan continues to progress and benefit from our new status as an Academy. The eight schools in our partnership are now able to provide mutual support to each other in a number of ways. Our schools benefit from enhanced leadership, governors share thoughts and ideas and subject leaders and finance officers have

GENERAL SCHOOL REMINDERS & SAFETY ISSUES School starts at 8.50am for Juniors and 8.55am for the infants. If you are a little late (Before 9.15am) please enter the school via the infant playground and come to the office to sign your child in. EARRINGS I would like to remind parents of the school’s health & safety policy on earrings – Only small PLAIN stud earrings may be worn and these will need to be removed for PE / Games.

ARRIVING AT SCHOOL An increasing number of children are arriving in school playground without adult supervision, some as young as Year 4. May I remind you that the school cannot be responsible for the safety of your children before the bell goes. STAFF CAR PARK Please do not allow your children to enter the school via the car park. STATIONERY SALES I would like to remind you a range of school stationery items are available to purchase from the school office from 3.15pm every day. We will have whiteboard pens, rulers, rubbers, pencils, sharpeners and much more available to buy at a very low price.
