Raglan Primary School Autumn Term Newsletter No. 1 5th September 2014 Dear Parent & Carers, Welcome back to Autumn Term 2014 - I hope you had a restful holiday. Term dates and a copy of the annual school calendar are attached below to help you plan for the school year ahead – do look out for any changes in subsequent newsletters or on the website as some of the dates are still provisional. WELCOME I am delighted to welcome our new Reception intake and the other children who have joined the school this term. We have a few staff changes as follows:
Sally Bafour joins Raglan to as interim Deputy Headteacher Tanya King who is teaching in year 4 Martin Hunter who is teaching in year 2 Vas Hardstone is expecting her second baby and will be commencing her maternity leave on 21st November – Congratulations! Nicola Frampton & Andrea Georgeou joined Raglan as Midday Supervisors Sarah Gordon has joined our Breakfast Club
SCHOOL DINNERS The amount due for school dinners for KS2 Children ONLY from Thursday 4th September to Thursday 23rd October is £70.00. (We are pleased to confirm that the cost of school dinners will remain at £2.00.)This is payable in advance with cheques payable to Raglan Primary School or via Schoolcomms. Please ensure your child’s name and new class is clearly marked on the reverse of the cheque. HARVEST FESTIVAL Advance notice that Harvest Festival this year will take place on Friday 10th October. A reminder will be sent nearer the time with details of any costumes required and suggestions for food donations. We continue to support the Hope Foundations who help families in crisis.
UNIFORM Please would you help us by making sure that every item of your child’s uniform, coat, hat, sports kit, lunch box, water bottle etc are named – sewn in labels are best for permanent marking but if you use any other method please check regularly to make sure names can be seen clearly. I’m sure I don’t have to remind you how stressful it can be for your child if they lose an article, to say nothing of the annoyance to parents when expensive garments go missing within days of purchase. Uniform names checks will take place throughout next week and we hope that by Friday 12th September that every child’s uniform is marked with their full name. Thank you for your cooperation! .
TISSUES Can I please make the annual request for a box of tissues per child to be sent in – we do have stocks for first aid use but need a supply for each classroom. Many thanks in advance for your welcome contributions.
KS1 PARENTS – PLAYGROUND ROUTINES In order to secure the safety of our KS1 children, when the bell rings, we would appreciate if ALL Reception,Y1 & Y2 parents move back behind the line by the play house to enable the children to enter the school safely at the start of the day. Thank you for your understanding and help. Equally please wait for your child to be sent to you by the teacher the end of the day.
SPORTS We will send home information about our after school clubs very shortly. However, I can confirm that clubs commence with effect from Monday 8th September. MESSAGE FROM ANNE-MARIE BUTLER –INCLUSION MANAGER Our school is currently undertaking a review of this policy to meet the new requirements for SEND in line with the new SEND Code of Practice effective from 1 September 2014. To provide an improved, compliant policy we are committed to co-producing our policy with families, children and young people. The consultation period for reviewing our existing policy will end on 30th September 2014. To contribute and participate in co-producing our policy together please contact Anne-Marie Butler, Inclusion Manager. LIFE BUS The Life Bus is coming to visit us at Raglan from 22nd 25th September. This is always an enjoyable experience for the children as well and an educational one. For those parents interested in visiting the Life Bus they can attend at these times: KS1 – 9am Monday 22nd September KS2 – 9am Tuesday 23rd September. A letter with more details will be sent out next week. BYMT OPEN MORNING BYMT are having an open morning on Saturday 6th September. They are offering the opportunity for children to try a range of orchestral instruments. The morning starts at 10am and admission is free. If your child is interested in starting music lessons at Raglan please speak to Mrs Critten – Reception Teacher. Bromley Youth Music Trust, Southborough Lane, Bromley, Kent BR2 8AA. Tel: 020 8467 1566 Email:
[email protected] READING MEETING FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS Thank you to all the adult helpers who come in and read with the children. We would be most grateful if you could join us for a meeting at 2.30pm on Friday 26th September in the lower hall. We look forward to seeing you.
FOOD ALLERGIES Please be aware that we have an increasing number of children at Raglan who have food allergies. I ask that you bear this in mind when preparing packed lunches for your children - in particular no peanut butter or any nut based items are not allowed. If you require further advice please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Thanking you in advance for your co-operation in this matter.
REMINDER FOR NEW RECEPTION CHILDREN There is a procedure at lunchtime for the collection of reception children next week. Please enter the KS1 playground via school gates in Jaffray Road. The children need to wait in line and be passed over to parents when the right parent/carer is seen. Please be patient as the children need to be handed over one at a time for health and safety reasons. We thank you very much for your patience and understanding. UPDATE ON KELLY’S KITCHEN With free schools for KS1 is now underway we are pleased to advise you that Kelly is coping extremely well as she always does. She is ready for the Reception children to start lunches next week. We have purchased additional equipment to cater for the increased number of children receiving school meals and we hope that there will be no disruption. As mentioned in the last newsletter you will appreciate it is imperative that if you are late or have an appointment in the morning and you wish your child to have a school meal either KS1 or KS2 you must inform the office by 10am to ensure the kitchen can provide sufficient meals. Thanking you in advance for your co-operation.
Yours sincerely,
C. A. Sutton Headteacher
