SEA TURTLE INC.’s GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW FACILITIES Saturday, February 17th, Sea Turtle Inc. celebrated the grand opening of their world class Sea Turtle facility. It has six huge (up to 50,000 gal.) tanks and several large (up to 3,000 gal.) aquariums. An education center and amphitheater round out the new location which is next door to the old hospital. The water collection system designed by IPSSA member Gordon Slagle, Fort Worth chapter, collects water from a brackish water lagoon and purifies and filters it for delivery to the new tanks. The tanks house the permanent resident turtles which are non-releasable to the ocean. There’s Jerry, the original turtle that started it all over 30 years ago, Fred the 200 lb. Logger Head turtle, and Alison the Green sea turtle with only one flipper (she lost her 3 other flippers in an shark attach). Alison can swim in her new tank with the aid of a custom designed pr ostheti c fin. “Merry TABLE OF CONTENTS Christmas” and “Hang Ten” are also permanent residence. It’s very satisfying to see these magnificent animals in their new homes. A FIRST IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY: NEW DISASTER-RELATED INCOME LOSS COVERAGE A new insurance benefit will be offered to members who have lost monthly revenue from disaster-related events beginning in April 2018, according to Ray Arouesty of Arrow Insurance Service. The recent wildfires in Northern and Southern California, as well as the floods in Houston and hurricanes in Florida have resulted in Ipssa members losing monthly income from pools that are no longer serviceable. “I heard of one member in Northern California that lost most of his route” The new coverage aims to replace that lost monthly income” he said. The current plan is to reimburse a member for income loss up to $25,000 for one year. Arouesty says that this type of coverage has never been written for a service contractor and that his company is writing the policy forms. The new income-replacement plan is the latest unique insurance benefit offered exclusively to IPSSA members by its endorsed insurance provider. “We included coverage for medical expenses resulting from accidental injury at the customer’s job site a few years ago. It’s been a great success” Arouesty said. “And our expanded coverage for chemical injury, workmanship and pool inspection claims have given members the gold standard in insurance protection”. HORROR FILE OF THE MONTH “What were they Thinking?” We have all run into those situations that are just so outrageous, funny or just plain stupid that they warrant a photo - it doesn’t just have to do with all the “creative” plumbing or equipment layouts we have seen. If you have a contribution of interest just let me know at: Ingrid - [email protected]

(and most at the old hospital) was installed by IPSSA volunteers. Over the last five years IPSSA volunteers have made thirteen trips to South Padre Island to install and repair the pool equipment that keep the turtles happy and healthy. The work isn’t over. The old hospital will be remodeled into a full size hospital facility that will include lodging for year around interns that are mostly grad students. Every year there are 400 to 600 applicants. Up till now there has only been room for four at a time. Although everything has been funded by donations (no tax dollars), the facility is federally licensed and inspected. During the last inspection the facility was dubbed world class with the best water quality of all the other similar operations in the United States. IPSSA volunteers are proud to be such a vital part of this ongoing environmental conservation project. We are planning to continue. Our next trip will be this September or October. Contact Tina Slagle 817-991-0555, IPSSA/Sea Turtle project chairwoman for info if you wish to join us.

How many facilities will be teaching on the day of the event? We estimate that approximately 600 locations will conduct a WLSL event on June 21st. The more facilities that participate, the bigger the news story! So, help spread the word! The total number of Host Locations for the 2018 WLSL event won't be available until after August 3, 2018. We want to host a lesson at our facility - what do we do? Facilities interested in being a Host Location for the WLSL should complete the online registration process. Once we've received your registration information, payment and release form, you'll have access online to a WLSL Host Location Kit including: the curriculum for the lesson, downloadable marketing materials and pressready documents and talking points to help you drive participation for your event. The deadline to register as a Host Location is June 7th. http://www.wlsl.org

We hosted a WLSL event last year - do we need to register again? Yes, as a returning Host Location, you will need to pay the registration fee again and sign a new 2018 release form in order to be part of this year's WLSL event. However, you will be able to use the same login information that you used last year in order to begin the registration process. If you don't have the login ID and password that you used last year, you may look it up here . Or you may email Bernadine Buda or call +1-913-599-0300. Please note that if your facility is also a member of the World Waterpark Association, then the member credentials you use for membersonly programs and services may also be used on the WLSL.org website to login and register as a WLSL Host Location. Is there a fee to participate? Yes, there is a small fee. The registration fee for 2018 is $69.00 for a single host location. We do have multiple location group discounts for related facilities within the same city limits. We also offer a limited number of scholarships to host locations that cannot afford the registration fee. For more details on the scholarship program or group discounts, please email Bernadine Buda. How will people know that our facility is participating? Once your Host Location registration is fully completed, your facility will be added to the searchable list of WLSL Host Locations on the Find A Local Event page. Do we need to teach a specific curriculum? Yes. All facilities participating in the WLSL event need to teach the same 30-minute lesson. The curriculum is an easy, beginner lesson, so plan to allow for the broadest participation possible. How do we qualify as part of the WLSL Official Count? Participating Host Location facilities will be responsible for counting, recording and submitting the total number of lesson participants as outlined in the WLSL Host Location Kit to qualify for the final official count. Each host facility must have a minimum of 5 participants to qualify. Sample WLSL participant log sheets and detailed qualification requirements will be provided to all Host Locations in the WLSL Host Location Kit .

Natural Chemistry is pleased to announce a new product known as Cleanse Weekly as a part of its new, high-end line of spa water care. The new ‘Cleanse Weekly’ is a concentrated blend of naturally based enzymes and phosphate removers that reduces unwanted non-living organic contaminants such as body oils, cosmetics, suntan lotions, hair products and so much more! Cleanse Weekly is designed to reduce scum lines and provide crystal clear, sparkling water with less work. Cleanse Weekly works as a continuous cartridge filter cleaner and removes unwanted phosphate contamination. This product is designed to be added weekly, directly into the spa water with the filtration system.
