Highlighted Wins Chicago Office Managing Partner Dave McRoberts and his team landed a big audit project thanks to a lead from Mazars Switzerland. Bucher Industries is a diverse Switzerland-based manufacturer with three large U.S. subsidiaries in the Midwest. Dave’s team, along with a top-level M&D team including Firm Managing Partner Jim Blake and M&D Practice Leader Kevin Pianko, met with the client in New York, winning the business. Total fees for the audit are estimated to be approximately $250,000, with significant potential to pick up the group audit and non-attest services.

A WeiserMazars Financial Services Tax team led by Partner Susan Grbic recently won an important FATCA Consultancy engagement with The African Trade Insurance Agency. Launched in 2001 with the financial and technical support of the World Bank and the backing of seven African countries, ATI is Africa’s export credit agency, providing political and trade credit risk insurance products. As the independent U.S. member firm of Mazars, we were specifically invited to propose on this project through a referral by Partner Guillaume Wadoux at Mazars France. Our proposal beat out PWC and Deloitte – making us the first Mazars member firm to provide services to the World Bank in Africa. Although this is a small engagement, it will provide important credentials for WeiserMazars and Mazars Group as a whole when proposing on similar international projects in the future.

Firm We AreInitiatives WeiserMazars WeiserMazars Days of Service As previously announced, WeiserMazars will be holding our first firm wide Volunteer Days on May 20, 27 and June 3. Each office has teamed up with local charities to offer several wonderful volunteer opportunities. You are more than welcome to volunteer outside of the office you work in. Space is limited for each opportunity and signups are on a first come, first served basis. Lunch and beverages will be served at all locations. Each volunteer opportunity is linked to an online registration form, where you can sign up. Please keep in mind the following when choosing the organization that you wish to support: • Please read the description of each volunteer opportunity carefully before signing up. Some require light physical labor. • You may ONLY sign up for one event on one date. • You do NOT need to come to the office before or after you complete your service. • Be sure you can commit to the day you choose. It is important that you stay at the event until the end. Morgan Corporate Challenge, to be held on Thursday, June 4th at Central Park! The race covers 3.5 miles and benefits the Central Park Conservancy. Firm We AreInitiatives WeiserMazars marcum workplace challenge We Are WeiserMazars is excited to participate in the Marcum Workplace Challenge. This 3.5 mile run is guaranteed to make you have the time of your life! This is a great opportunity to enjoy being outdoors with friends and co/workers on a summer evening. Proceeds from the run will go to the following charities:

• The Long Island Children’s Museum • Children’s Medical Fund of New York • Long Island Care, Inc. - The Harry Chapin Food Bank • The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

About the challenge: The Marcum Workplace Challenge is Long Island’s largest corporate run-walk for charity as well as the region’s largest corporate picnic. The event has raised nearly $500,000 for Long Island charities since Marcum became title sponsor in 2006. The Challenge is managed by the Greater Long Island Running Club. In 2014, over 9,300 participants ran or walked for 215 corporate teams and nearly 12,000 Long Islanders attended in total. 2015 will be the event’s 10th anniversary year! Office Community New York Officeiatives University of Wisconsin-Madison WeiserMazars visited the University of Wisconsin on April 8th for a day of fun-filled recruiting events. Audit Manager Jason Slivka (Wisconsin Alum), Audit Senior Manager Pierre Francois, Audit Senior Melanie Mahramadjian and Audit Senior Logan Shalett spent the day promoting WeiserMazars and speaking with accounting students. They presented to the Multicultural Business Organization, followed by a social gathering at Roast Madison.

Baruch college On April 17th, Baruch College’s Passport to Partnership Program (P2P) visited the New York Office. The P2P program is an academic, year-long leadership program that prepares students for careers in accounting. We were able to show the students first-hand how a CPA firm works. The students who visited our office had the unique opportunity to learn more about WeiserMazars and the accounting industry through a presentation and discussion on our firm from our Chairman, Doug Phillips, as well from Partners Michael Flagiello and Katie Byrne.

Office Community Lunch & Learn On April 28th, close to 100 attendees from all offices gathered for a Lunch & Learn session organized by Kim Jones and Yvonne Moir. The Lunch & Learn demonstrated the collective WeiserMazars Team approach and strong resources that WeiserMazars has in providing excellent client services. Speakers Joe Unger, Michael Susman and Karen Chen highlighted the many challenges encountered and how the matters were resolved to the client’s satisfaction. The presentation, moderated by Joe Unger, was an excellent demonstration of superior WeiserMazars client service in a large, complex and tremendously sentimental transaction where the owners sold the majority of the company they spent so many years building, nurturing and growing. Paul Milonakis connected the offices and provided excellent IT support.

Secret life of a weisermazarian Anthony Lacoudre wrote and published a book, Les Mots Français En Anglais, which speaks about the similarities between the French and English languages. Check out his book here!

Autism Awareness Day Cupcakes Thank you to Lisa Rubino who baked cupcakes for Autism Awareness Day for the Long Island Office! In the picture, Lisa Bott is on the left and Lisa Rubino is on the right.

D’lites ice cream On April 10th, the Long Island Office took a busy season break and enjoyed some guilt free tasty d’Lites. Thank you to all of our ice cream servers who took the time out of their busy day to help serve. Of course, we cannot forget Charles Pagano for once again doing an outstanding job with the whip cream.

Office Community Trivia Winners This busy season the Long Island Office played Trivia Wednesdays. Every Wednesday, a different trivia question was sent to the office and the first three correct respondents received a prize! The three people with the most correct answers throughout the season were then entered into the grand prize trivia round. The grand prize trivia question and answer was: Question: How much money do we donate annually to charitable organizations? St. John’s University visit On April 16th, David Rubenstein, Amanda Arbucci, Gianfranco (Franco) Pieri and Danielle Cantatore visited St. John’s University to talk to accounting students and offer their #BestAdvice on what to expect when they enter the workforce specifically during busy season. They also gave the students interviewing advice and explained how WeiserMazars provides a positive working environment.

Office Community American Council of Engineering companies With WeiserMazars recently becoming a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Jim Kinney attended the ACEC Annual Convention and Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. on April 19-21, 2015. Long Island University student visit On April 21st, students from Long Island University (LIU) talked to Chris Roberts, Keven Stepnowski, Chris Conte, Alany Rodriguez, Erik Molander, Maryann Richer, Anthony Chieco and Teresa Hansen on what it’s like to work in an accounting firm and answered the students’ questions regarding interviewing, internships and more. To make this event a little more exciting, they “live tweeted” via HR twitter handle @WMCareersUS and used the hashtag #BestAdvice. Office Community Real Estate Institute (REI) Spring Symposium On Friday, April 24th, Donald Bender, Patrick Oberlies and Jennifer Safran attended the Real Estate Institute (REI) Spring Symposium. The theme of the event was “LI’s Future: Innovation & Infrastructure.” The event was held at Farmingdale State College and included an Innovation Economy Panel moderated by John Kominicki - President of Innovate Long Island and an Infrastructuring the Future panel moderated by Michael Stoler President of New York Real Estate T.V., LLC and Managing Director of Madison Realty Capital.

Fair Media Council Folio Awards On Friday, April 24, WeiserMazars was a sponsor of the Fair Media Council Folio Awards, held at the Crest Hollow Country Club. FMC’s Folio Awards is a star-studded affair of the best in New York news, combined with hundreds of business, government and community leaders. An Economic Look at 2015 webinar The webinar discussed wasy in which, the economy is improving for the retail food and restaurant sectors. Food inflation of course plays a major role in both industries.
