Don't miss the pictures attached!!! We had a wonderful Spring Social at the home of Dee Dee Smith. The weather and the farm were a perfect location for the afternoon tea. I would like to thank Dee Dee for opening her home to both old, and new friends. The floral demonstrations provided by C hristen C ervasse were magnificent-- so timely for upcoming graduation receptions, showers, and weddings. Thank you C hristen for taking time out of your Sunday to spend it with the Giving C ircle. You will be able to experience the afternoon with a slide show by clicking here. I would like to extend another thank you to the members of our grants committee. They devoted their time and effort to review the grant proposals and recommend the distribution of this year's pool, which was sent for your approval. Special thanks goes to Susan Parrish, Ester Tibbs, Susan Barrick, C andice King, Sheila Dickinson, and Deirdre Fogler for their participation in the most important function of the Giving C ircle. I hope you are proud that we have invested almost $500,000 in our community to support women and girls over the last 6 years. Your commitment remains the single reason for this success. Remember May 16th, The Women's Giving C ircle Annual Grants Reception. This year we will host the reception at Byron Terwilliger's downtown Gainesville's Blue Water Bay. You will be receiving your invitation soon. Plan on a wonderful evening from 5:30-7:00 pm for cocktails and hors d' oeuvres. Grant Awards Announcement: The WGC Grant Awards have been decided. Here are the recipients as approved by membership:
General Grant Awards Big Brothers Big Sisters - $4,927.50 This will ensure continued services to the 50 girls through the summer months. All of these girls are currently matched in the Gainesville area through the "Bigs Inspiring Scholastic Success" program.
Girls Place Summer Camp - $4,000 Our funds will offer sliding scale financial assistance for girls in middle school and high school.
Meridian Behavioral Health Care - $3,500 The funding will help to expand the Meridian Transitional Jobs Program. This program offers parttime employment opportunities for women in Gainesville with mental health disabilities.
Partnership for Strong Families (Library Partnership) - $3,000 These funds will support Project Job Makeover, and will assist up to 15 women. Project Job Makeover's purpose is to train and empower women to succeed in the current job market.
Take Stock in Children - $4,000 This will be to purchase a Florida Pre-Paid two-year scholarship that will benefit the class of 2018. The state will match these funds to help provide for the scholarship.
Focus Grant Awards Catholic Charities - $12,187.50 This continues to support an IDA program for women.
Peaceful Paths - $20,312.50 This will continue to support their current IDA program and launch a micro loan component.
