LUAU IN PARADISE 2011—JUNE 24TH AND 25TH. It is time to get your team together for our showcase event – Luau in Paradise 2011! This year’s event is sure to be terrific with new formats that should provide our members and their guests with challenging yet fun golf on our 2 fabulous golf courses. Practice rounds will be offered on Thursday, June 23rd followed by the Big Break Skills Challenge and Cocktail Party in the afternoon. The tournament rounds will be played on June 24th and 25th. Sign-ups will be taken at our Opening Day event so be sure to sign up early to guarantee your team a spot in this tournament. The cost will remain the same as last year - $190 per player which includes 3 rounds of golf, the cocktail party, breakfast and lunch on both tournament days and of course, tee prizes! Formats – what does the committee have planned for our golfing enjoyment? We have changed the formats so that we won’t have to impose the additional 8 stroke differential penalty on any of the teams this year. So sign up with your friends, no matter what the handicap differences might be on your team. On the Legend Course we will be playing 2 different formats. On the front 9 - the Hu-La-La (Reverse Cha Cha Cha) and on the back 9 - the Co-Co-Nut Shamble (a Shamble). On the Challenge Course we will be playing the Pineapple Ball. ―What is that?‖, you are probably asking? One person will play their own ball on each hole while the rest of the team plays a scramble. Look for sign up information in the coming weeks. If you have any questions, contact Jamie Hanson at [email protected] or at 775-762-7528. Get your team together and join in the fun!!

WELCOME TO THE 2011 SEASON OPENING DAY—MAY 3 Come one, come all!!! May 3 is Ladies Club Opening Day. We will play nine holes of golf and enjoy a FREE luncheon (compliments of the Ladies Club) followed by a short general meeting. The golf format will be a 4 gal scramble. All members (eighteen holers and nine holers together) will be randomly assigned partners using ABCD designations. You will see your friends from the past and meet our new members. Check in time will end at 9:05 and we still start play at 9:20. The meeting will be an opportunity to meet your 2011 officers and hear about all the events we have planned for this year. It’s important that we have as many members attend as possible, so please come for the luncheon and meeting even if you can’t come for golf. We have our fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate this year. If it doesn’t we will let you know our revised plan. We will sign you up on Fusion when you submit your membership renewal. We have a lot to look forward to this summer and I hope you are as excited as I am for the golfing to begin! See you soon. Jill Straub, President, ACLGC

www.pattysheehanandfriends.com GOLF GIGGLES *Golf is a game where the slowest people in the world are those in front of you and the fastest are those behind.

**It seems the older I get, the longer the fairways and the smaller the holes get. *Q: Why is playing golf like paying taxes?

*Many golfers prefer golf carts to caddies. Carts can’t count, criticize or laugh.

A: Because no matter how hard you drive for the green, you still end up in the hole.

*Two golfers were sitting in the clubhouse commiserating on how badly they golfed throughout the year when one said to the other, “Oh yeah, well, my game was so bad this year I had to have my ball retriever regripped.”

*Ever wonder what professional golfers do after they retire? *Linda and Joan met for a round of golf. Just as they were getting set to tee off, one said, ”Shall we play by the men’s rules, or will every shot count?”

Know your Rules of Golf...by Darla Smyth Abnormal Ground Conditions - Rule 25 As winter tries to melt to spring, we dust off the clubs and head to the course. Rule 25 will definitely come into play. Definitions: Abnormal Ground Conditions (AGC) Any casual water, ground under repair or hole, cast or runway on the course made by a burrowing animal, reptile or bird. Casual Water Any temporary accumulation of water on the course, not in a water hazard, that is visible before or after the player takes her stance. Dew and frost are NOT casual water. A BALL is in casual water when it lies in or any part of the BALL touches casual water. Ground Under Repair (GUR) GUR is any part of the course so marked or so declared by the rules committee. It includes materials piled for removal and a hole made by a greens-keeper even if these are not marked. Relief...Through the Green: If the ball lies through the green, the player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. The nearest point of relief must not be in a hazard or on a putting green. When the ball is dropped within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, the ball must first strike a part of the course at a spot that avoids interference by the condition and is not in a hazard and not on a putting green. Myth's ... Has this ever happened to you? You are playing golf with a friend. Your ball comes to rest in GUR. You let your playing partner know that you are going to take relief from the GUR. You mark your closest point of relief no closer to the hole, mark it with a tee, pick up your ball and clean it. Your friend yells "you can't clean that ball... you only get relief. It's a penalty". Well, no it isn't. It's a MYTH.
