17 April 2015 Dear Parents/Carers I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break and that pupils are ready for a busy and exciting summer term. Inspire and Achieve Ofsted: Following my last newsletter, I explained that we are anticipating an inspection this term and that as part of the inspection process parental views are sought. Please can I urge parents to complete the online survey to gather your crucial views on https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk .
You can give your view now and then update it again when the inspection team visit. We have always had very positive responses from parents when we have collected your views at Parents’ Evenings. Where we can respond to specific concerns or issues we always explore these fully. Whilst we cannot directly or individually respond to Ofsted’s Parent View we would hope that you would contact the school directly and share them with us, but also equally share your positive views through Parent View to provide an accurate view of the school’s progress. Interim Reports: This week you should have received the termly Interim Report for your son / daughter to show their progress in their subjects. If you have not received one then please contact the school immediately. Year 11 GCSE’s: GCSE exams start in less than four weeks. The timetable has been sent out to pupils and parents and is also available on our website. We are very confident about our current Year 11 results but the revision they do is critical in ensuring they achieve their full potential and our expectations. Year 9 Options Evening: Our Year 9 Options Evening for pupils and parents is on Thursday 30 April 4.30-7 p.m. We ask all Year 9 pupils and parents to attend to ensure they access the information they need to make the right decision for their GCSE choices. This year’s event will take place in our Sports Hall in a “market” style so that all subjects are together, along with further education colleges. Challenge Extra-Curricular Activities: Please find attached to this letter a copy of the extra-curricular activities for the summer term. We hope as many pupils as possible will get involved in these activities. Duke of Edinburgh: Year 10 pupils set out next Saturday (25 April) on their practice expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh award. Good luck to all involved. Nurture Resuscitation Training for all pupils: The North West Ambulance Service are visiting school this Monday (20 April) to give valuable sessions to all our pupils on resuscitation techniques. All pupils will receive a certificate on completion of the training to develop important life skills.
Healthy Relationships Week: Over recent months we have been working with Clare House Women’s Refuge to develop a programme on supporting our pupils and staff in understanding healthy relationships. As a result, we are launching a Healthy Relationships week (commencing 27 April) where pupils will receive input from trained staff from Clare House on what is a healthy relationship and how to look for the warning signs that may lead to future domestic violence issues. This is an extension of our PSHE and links with a national initiative through Women’s Aid “Safer Futures”. Thank you for your continued support of our pupils and the school. Yours sincerely
Mr P Tolson Headteacher
