Assessment and Evaluation: Formal assessment is made up of tests, quizzes and projects. Students are encourage to keep a record of their marks using a marks page. Tests will be given at the end of each major concept. Quizzes will be announced or unannounced. Unexcused absences will result in a mark of ZERO for that test or quiz. Term Evaluation: Tests: 80% Quizzes, Classwork, Assignments and Projects: 20% Final Grade Calculation: Terms are equally weighted. The AP exam mark does not affect the classroom grade. Homework: Homework will be assigned daily. Every student will be given a homework outline at the beginning of each unit, which lists the homework for each lesson. The amount of homework time will depend on the individual students ability and mastery of the concepts taught, and on that student’s appropriate use of class working time.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be given on a regular basis. Students will have greater success if homework and review is completed daily. Absences: All absences from the class must be excused by a phone call to the office on the day of the absence. Students are responsible for checking the class website and/or getting a peer’s notes and getting caught up with the homework and material missed. If a quiz is missed, students must see the teacher upon their return to school to make arrangements to write the quiz. A zero may be given for the quiz mark if this is not done. Lates: Lates to class are not acceptable. It is inappropriate and inconsiderate to interrupt the learning of other students. Students must be seated and prepared to work when the final bell has sounded. A legitimate late must be in the form of a written excuse by a teacher, parent/guardian, and must be reported to the office. Classroom Behaviour: Mature and considerate behavior is expected in class. The students should be courteous, cooperative, and respectful to others. Cell phones and music players should not be visible of heard in the classroom. Extra Help: The math department publishes a schedule of when extra help is available. This schedule is posted in every math classroom and students are welcome to see any math teacher for help. I am typically available in P3 mornings at 8am and after school by appointment.
