CITYSWITCH By 2012, the CitySwitch national vision is to: 





significantly contribute to a reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions produced by office tenants in Australia; substantially decrease overall electricity demand from tenancies in each participating council business district; and positively influence a widespread market transformation within the tenancy sector with a focus on office energy efficiency.

Provided 293 business premises with 310 recycling bins. Collected 286,969 tonnes of refuse and 91,553 tonnes of recycling from the regular kerbside collection and 16,179 tonnes of refuse in bulk bins. Provided approximately 990 recycling bins to 540 multi-unit dwellings. This yielded 2600 tonnes of recycling.

Collected 1652 tonnes of waste from parks & footpath collections.



Repaired or replaced 48,720 bins.



Processed 91,553 tonnes of recyclable materials



Retrieved approximately 11,100 tonnes of furniture, white goods, household appliances, carpet, wood products and bicycles as part of the new Large Item Kerbside Collection program.

Collected more than 12 tonnes of e-waste and 67 tonnes of household hazardous waste at two e-Waste and four Household Hazardous Waste events. Collected a total of 837 tonnes of e-waste at transfer stations. Opened the Tip Shop, a second-hand good store to improve resource recovery and demonstrate Council’s commitment to reduced waste generation.

Future development has to deal with the threat of climate change. The South East Queensland Regional Plan, says that Councils have to plan for sea level rise of 0.8m by 2100.
