Technology Integration Workshop 2016 Unit Title: Adding/Subtracting positive and negative numbers Grade Level: 7th Grade Subject Area: Mathematics Duration/Length/Number of class periods: 5 class periods Description: Students will manipulate a number line for adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers using a number line. The learning target for this lesson is: 1. What direction on a number line would you move if the two integers have the same sign (pos/neg) 2. What direction on a number line would you move if the two integers have different signs (pos/neg) Established Goals (National, State, Local): 7.1.2.1 Add, subtract, multiply and divide positive and negative rational numbers that are integers, fractions and terminating decimals; use efficient and generalizable procedures, including standard algorithms; raise positive rational numbers to wholenumber exponents.

What Enduring Understandings are desired? Students will see how to balance out real life skills through experimentation of of mathematics. What Essential Questions will be considered? What pattern develops with drawing number lines with signs that are the same and signs that are different. Students will know / be able to:Students are to recognize that when signs are the same students should add the rational numbers together and keep the positive or negative sign, if the signs are different students should subtract the rational numbers and keep the larger sign.

Using google slides as a platform students will need to Watch a video with instruction of how to add/subtract Rational numbers with positive and negative numbers. Embedded into the google slides with be a number line in which students need to manipulate the problem, as well as, a link to take a google form quiz as a formative assessment to assess comprehension of benchmark 7.1.2.1

Students need to watch a video using edpuzzle. The intended video will demonstrate to students how to work the google slides web site, as well as, instruct the skill of mathematics. Students will use the arrow tool on a number line to show understanding and develop a pattern of which way the arrows move on the numberline. Students will fill out a questionnaire that coincides with the intended learning target
