Introduction To Philosophy [Syllabus] 730:103:01 Winter Session 2011 Time: MTWThF 09:00AM - 12:00PM Place: College Ave., Scott Hall, Room101 Instructor: Rodrigo Borges Office Hours: M 1:00PM‐2:30 (and by appt), 1 Seminary Place, room 14 Contact: [email protected] Course Description This course will introduce the student to Philosophy and to philosophizing. Thus, its main objective is to acquaint the student with some of the most fundamental philosophical problems and with philosophical practice. Free will, the nature of Ethics and skepticism are among the philosophical problems discussed during the course. Since most of philosophizing amounts to the careful scrutiny of arguments as well as to the careful construction of arguments, students will exercise both dimensions of philosophizing in classroom through the critical discussion of readings.

Requirements Required work for the course include: (1) oral presentation of one of the required readings; (2) in class activities (3) final essay.

Course Material All readings for the course will be made available on the sakai page for the course. The book1 will be our main source.
