Regular Meeting of the Board – March 25, 2014 This meeting is a meeting of the School Board in public for the purpose of conducting the School Corporation business and is not to be considered a public community meeting. There will be time for public comment as indicated on the agenda. VISITORS REQUESTING PERMISSION TO ADDRESS THE BOARD ON A SPECIFIC AGENDA ITEM Visitors requesting permission to address the Board on a specific agenda item are requested to sign in on the registration form upon arrival at the meeting. Each statement made by a participant on any specific agenda item may be limited at the discretion of the presiding officer. Visitors will be restricted to one appearance per item. RECOGNITION – Dr. Barker BEIGER SCHOOL PRESENTATION The program will begin with School Librarian Mrs. Beth Schwier, who will share many of the school’s library activities this year. Assisting her are Da Shana Hall, Logan Bingaman, Chase Johnston, and Ethan Stanton. This will be followed by a report from third grade teacher Mr. Dave Weber about the third grade sleep-in. Tanner Parmley, Marissa Rowe, and Alana Sandoval will help to share about this overnight experience. Principal Dean Fecher introduced Mrs. Schwier saying that she maintains multiple activities through the year. With the help of her students, Mrs. Schwier described many of the library happenings, including Family Reading Night, Read across America, Turn off the TV Week, Reading Olympics, and Genre Lunch in the Library. After that Mr. Weber talked about the third grade Awesome Overnight Experience. This was the tenth year for this sleep-in. Students enjoyed activities such as a scavenger hunt, egg drop, and winter Olympics. A memory book was created at the end of the event. Mr. Fecher also attended the overnight event. He commended Mrs. Schwier, Mr. Weber, and the entire staff for their great work ethic and teamwork.

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 11, 2014 REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD It is recommended that the minutes of the March 11, 2014 Regular Meeting of the Board be approved as presented.

BILL WARRANTS AND PAYROLL It is recommended that the bill warrants and payroll in the amount of $2,148,623.34 be approved for payment from the appropriate fund.

FINANCIAL REPORT It is recommended that the financial report, dated February 2014, be approved as presented.

FUNDRAISER REQUESTS It is recommended that the Board of School Trustees grant approval for the fundraiser requests as listed and documented.

FIELD TRIP REQUESTS It is recommended that the Board of School Trustees grant approval for the field trip requests as listed and documented.

QUESTIONS FROM THE FLOOR – President Wood COMMUNICATION WITH PTA Deb Fox reported that PTA is working on ways to improve elementary sports. She also announced the new PTA fundraiser, Trivia Mogul, would be starting soon.

REPRESENTATIVES OF SCHOOL EMPLOYEES None

REPRESENTATIVES OF MISHAWAKA EDUCATION FOUNDATION Steve Nilles reported that the Foundation recently helped to sponsor the Mishawaka High School Senior Recognition dinner. Also, the Major Saver fundraiser is underway. This event raised $45.000 in recent years and all of the proceeds were used to upgrade the wireless connectivity in the schools.

Regular Meeting of the Board – March 25, 2014 Anyone wishing to address the Board on general topics is invited to do so under this item. These individuals must register their intention to participate in the public portion of the meeting upon their arrival at the meeting. Each statement made by a participant may be limited at the discretion of the presiding officer. It is requested that names and addresses be stated at the beginning of such comments. Individuals may speak only once during this section of the agenda. As per Board Policy, personnel issues will not be addressed during open sessions of the Board. Concerns about individual employees of the district should be brought to the superintendent or designee. 2014 – 49.

50.1a APPROVAL FOR SCRATCH CLUB AT EMMONS SCHOOL – Dr. Barker Superintendent’s Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of School Trustees approve the formation of a Scratch Club (Computer Programming) at Emmons Elementary School. Regular Meeting of the Board – March 25, 2014 51.1b APPROVAL OF SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH OTIS ELEVATOR COMPANY – Dr. Barker – Submitted by Mr. Squadroni Superintendent’s Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of School Trustees approve the service agreement between School City of Mishawaka and Otis Elevator Company. Services provide examination and lube maintenance for the attached list of vertical lifts. It is further recommended that the Business Manager be authorized to sign the agreement on behalf of the School Corporation. Motion by

51.1c APPROVAL OF LETTER OF INTENT WITH EMCOR FOR GUARANTEED ENERGY SAVINGS PROJECT – Dr. Barker – Submitted by Mr. Squadroni Superintendent’s Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of School Trustees approve the letter of intent with EMCOR for $1,000,000.00. The letter of intent is to cover material and labor costs for the guaranteed energy savings projects approved by the Board on March 11, 2014. Motion by

Parents and community members are reminded that the system wide Spring Break is April 7, 2014 through April 11, 2014. It is further noted all School City of Mishawaka schools and offices will be closed on Friday, April 18, 2014 for a spring recess day.



The next Regular Meeting of the Board of School Trustees will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Administrative Center, 1402 South Main Street, Mishawaka, Indiana.
