The Knights of Columbus is asking those considering a Lenten sacrifice to give “40 Bucks for Lent” and use the hashtag #40BucksForLent to help Middle Eastern Christians and other religious minorities suffering religious persecution there. “Since many people give up something for Lent, we wanted to provide an opportunity for their sacrifice to make a difference — not only in their own life, but in the lives of others,” said K of C Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “During the Lenten season, we recall Christ’s suffering and death. In turn, remembering and assisting those who are today suffering and dying for their belief in Christ is an excellent way to do good where it is most needed and to enter more deeply into the spirit of this season.” The Knights began its Christian Refugee Relief Fund in 2014. To date nearly $10 million has been raised to provide housing, food, medical aid, education and general relief to persecuted Christians and other religious minorities especially from Iraq and Syria, and to raise awareness about their plight. Those persecuted have suffered enormously at the hands of terrorists, who target them simply for their faith. Lives have been turned upside down, friends and families killed, and homes seized. Last fall, the Knights also brought a young Iraqi girl to the United States with her mother, so she could receive specialized medical care. In addition to raising funds, the Knights of Columbus has brought assistance to these Christians and other persecuted religious minorities while also working to raise awareness of their situation via television commercials and news stories. More recently, Supreme Knight Anderson testified on Capitol Hill and signed a letter to the State Department with a number of religious leaders, scholars and other experts asking the U.S. government to declare the systematic destruction and persecution of Middle Eastern Christians as genocide. These donations can be made to the Christian Refugee Relief Fund at christiansatrisk.org, or by sending checks or money orders (payable to “Knights of Columbus Charities”) to P.O. Box 1966, New Haven, CT 06509-1966. The memo portion should indicate that the check is for “Christian Refugee Relief.” No administrative fees are taken from the funds donated, so 100% of all donations directly supports humanitarian assistance and efforts to raise awareness of persecuted Christians and other religious minorities, especially in the Middle East. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Knights of Columbus Charities Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a charitable organization under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization, with nearly 1.9 million members worldwide, and it is one of the most active charitable organizations in the United States. The Knights set a new record for charitable giving in its last fraternal year with donations of more than $173.5 million and 71.5 million hours of service to charitable causes, much of it raised and donated by its more than 15,000 councils. Christian One-liners Forbidden fruits create many jams. God loves everyone, but probably prefers 'fruits of the spirit' over 'religious nuts!' You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to discourage him/her. There is no greater treasure than a good friend! We don't change the message, the message changes us.

4th Degree News The pictures on the back page are from the recent Confirmation held at Moody AFB Chapel. 4 SK’s dresses out for this occasion. You can probably recognize the one of the individuals in the picture, Fr. Marv, the other is Robert J. Coyle, Auxiliary Bishop for the Arch Diocese for the Military Services, USA, who travels to each base and celebrates the mass. The Moody folks really appreciated us coming and it was a great opportunity to be visible in other parishes. Please continue to pray for the sick and recovering Sir Knight (SK) members of our assembly from the Valdosta, Thomasville, Douglas, Tifton and Waycross councils. I’d still like to see more of our 3rd degree Knights take the next step, and join the Patriotic Arm of the order. With the increasing age and decreasing health of many of our SK, let’s see if there are any other 3 rd degree knights up to the privilege of wearing the regalia and representing the Knights patriotic arm of the order. If any brother has a question about the 4th Degree or would like an application, please contact SK Kevin Berkel (Color Corps Commander) at 241-7251 or any officer in the assembly. Some upcoming events (through February 2016): Feb. (20) 2016: Assembly Dinner at Elks Lodge in Tifton, Ga Mar. (3) 2016: Spring Special Olympics – Freedom Park Mar. From The Ladies Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who baked cookies for the Valentines delivery to the fire fighters! The gentlemen were pleasantly surprised and excited to see all the cookies! Each firehouse was given a card as well as one large tray overflowing with cookies as well as a metal pan with more baked goods! At one of the houses One of the firefighters even said you didn't forget about us! Once again thank you thank you thank you!!! Angels Your Way, Michelle

For Wisdom Before Election Day God of Wisdom, I pray, make me wise. It is a blessing to live in a country where citizens vote for their leaders and decide by ballot many of the important issues of our day. But I am confused. There is so much to know. I listen to the news on television and the radio. I read the paper. Yet it seems that those more knowledgeable than I disagree with each other. Sometimes I don’t know whose opinion I should trust. Help me and my fellow citizens to be worthy of the privilege of voting. Help me to avoid labeling others, but to consider all opinions and try to understand. Most of all dear Lord, help me to listen for you voice amidst all of the voices. God of wisdom, I pray, make me wise. Amen Source: Prayers for Our Country, Paige Byrne Shortal
