Reminder of what the Bible teaches The Bible teaches us that tithing (giving 10% of our income) to the work of the Lord is something with which God is very pleased – and it is something He richly rewards (see Malachi 3:10). It is not a law nor is it the maximum amount – we can of course give more than our tithe! The Bible teaches that God expects believers to give cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7), regularly (1 Corinthians 16:2), & sacrificially (Mark 12:41-44). And remember, giving includes giving of Time, Talents as well as Treasure (money).

Queen Elizabeth Unashamed To celebrate her 90th birthday the Queen has written a book entitled ‘The Servant Queen and the King she serves’. Her Majesty writes, “I have been – and remain – very grateful to you for your prayers & to God for his steadfast love. I have indeed seen his faithfulness.” The Queen writes about many different experiences during her record-breaking reign (of over 64 years), saying, “We have witnessed triumphs & tragedies.” A twelve-page version of the Queen’s book is being made available for schools by Scripture Union. The Queen does not hide her faith. She has often used her traditional Christmas message to speak of forgiveness, of Jesus’ sacrificial life, & of the fact that no one is beyond God’s love. Last year she said that the world “…has had to confront moments of darkness”, but, “…the Gospel of John contains a verse of great hope, often read at Christmas carol services: ‘The light shines in the darkness, & the darkness has not overcome it.’” In her 2014 message the Queen referred to Jesus as the Prince of Peace, & in 2012 she said that God “sent His only son ‘to serve, not to be served’”. Let us pray for the Queen & give thanks for her wonderful testimony.

Pray For Syria Syria’s civil war which started almost 5 years ago is the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. Of the country’s pre-war population of 22 million about 250,000 have been killed & almost 11 million have been forced to flee their homes. Over 4 million are refugees in neighbouring countries or in Europe.

A Word from the Pastor Today we come to the final message in our series based on 2 Timothy written by Paul to young Timothy to whom he was passing the torch of ministry. It is believed that soon after writing this letter Paul faced his final trial before the emperor Nero & was executed. It is a letter full of passion, showing Paul’s heart for the Gospel & for people. In the very last section of the letter, apart from Timothy to whom he is writing, Paul mentions 17 people by name. Relationships were important. People mattered to Paul. Of course some people brought disappointment to the apostle but others were a blessing & an encouragement. As Paul gets personal it is amazing how much we can learn that is relevant for us as we seek to build good relationships today. God bless, Peter
