Beach Samples 2015
Welcome to the bathing beach information hotline. The health unit will be monitoring 10 public beaches throughout Windsor Essex County. There are health risks associated with swimming in contaminated water that include ear, eye and nose infections, as well as gastrointestinal infections. As the E. coli bacteria count exceeds 100, the health risk increases accordingly. From our experience, we have found that weather conditions are the leading factor that can adversely affect water quality. Bacteria levels will increase in accordance with the amount of rainfall or if the water is cloudy and churned up from a strong on-shore wind. Calm clear water is usually associated with lower bacterial levels, while rough or cloudy water has been associated with high counts. The bacterial counts given reflect the conditions at the time of sampling. Conditions change from day to day depending on the weather conditions and lake levels. The bacterial counts for samples taken Wednesday, July 8, 2015 are as follows: Sandpoint Beach - Windsor
720
West Belle River Beach - Lakeshore
410
Hillman Beach - Leamington
35
Northwest Beach - Point Pelee
