Fabrication has begun began on another marine vessel project at Moran Iron Works this month. The January fabrication launch incorporates updates to the hull, deck plate, a newly constructed pilot house and cosmetic renovations.

With our experienced team at the helm, construction of the 25 foot long bow section of the ship has started. The new construction integrates heavier plate for durability when navigating the hazardous conditions of the Great Lakes.

Joey, a certified welder & fabricator at Moran Iron Works North, joined the ranks in 2012 fresh out of high school. He set his goals high at the onset of his career, aiming to earn the trust and respect of his fellow team members, regardless of his age. His determination and dedication has done just that!

The estimating department has successfully completed another one of their bid packages, and Moran Iron Works has been awarded a 20 million dollar ductwork fabrication project. More information to follow in the February Newsletter.

It is by no accident that he ended up at MIW, due to the admiration his Grandfathers expressed to him for Tom Moran and Moran Iron Works, Joey was driven to create a place for himself on the team.

Moran Iron Works intern program is off and running with multiple students having completed their course. This new program, implemented at MIW in the Summer of 2012, has been an amazing success with staggering support from advanced learning institutes.

He is currently working on refining his abilities to weld in confined spaces while continuing to meet the Moran standard for perfection.

Patriotic Award Bestowed to Moran Iron Works “ When welding and working the weld puddle is like the sun– Creation.” - Joey Verville

SSgt Matthew Cherrette, an employee at MIW who is currently serving our country in Afghanistan, nominated Tom Moran of Moran Iron Works to the Department of Defense for the distinguished Patriotic Award. This award is given to those employers who go above and beyond requirements to support their employees in the armed forces Matt has been employed at Moran Iron Works, as a welder, since 2010. SSgt Cherrette, his wife Heather and their two children, Norah 3, and Mason 18 months, live in Rogers City, Michigan. Matt’s brother Chad is also an employee at Moran Iron Works. “It is with the upmost honor and respect I accept this award on behalf of the Moran Iron Works Team, a team that is incomplete until the return of Matt.”, stated Tom Moran.

The award was presented on January 4th, at Moran Iron Works, headquarters, in Onaway, Michigan by the Department of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
