opportunities for local communities and school districts. This investment has been supplying vocational opportunities for students that are not traditionally college-bound while providing our company and our community with a prospective workforce. “There is plenty of work and the trend for offshore manufacturing is reversing and coming back to Michigan.” Moran said. “Michigan has the infrastructure for manufacturing– we are designed for it. We have the workforce.” The award, sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation is being presented in Lansing on May 3rd . Senior Estimator, Jill Klein, who led the biding on the project, stated “ This project will fit ideally into our work schedule. We have done similar projects for this company, we know what their expectations are, and have always been able to meet or exceed them. In the past we have fabricated two very similar projects for the same plant. The project is approximately 1,270,175 pounds of fabricated ductwork, 50% of material will be delivered in October of 2012. Final delivery will be in May of 2013. The 1/4” wall constructed of mild steel will be insulated, lagged, and modularized to the greatest extent possible prior to barging. Guillotine Dampers Nearing Completion Moran Iron Works is playing an important role in helping to clean air, and employ Michigan workers. The ductwork we are currently fabricating for a Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) project is expected to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from our customer’s coal-fired plant. Moran Iron completed the first half of the FGD emission upgrades in 2008 for this customer, allowing operation of the new system to be functional in 2009. In 2010 our customer recorded 54% less SO2 emissions. The second half of FGD ductwork (ongoing at MIW) is expected to be installed and operational by 2014. In addition to the ductwork for both halves of this project, we are currently assembling the eight “Guillotine Dampers” that will be barged shipped to our customer for installation. Each damper will weigh approximately 28 ton.
