Since August 2009 Moran Iron Works has been very busy preparing for this day. The final shipments are going out to Babcock & Wilcox-Consumers Energy Project. This week Moran loaded, trucked, and craned 700,080 lbs of steel to be barged to the Consumer’s Energy Plant. The first barge loads went out with a total load weight of 397,405 lbs and the second barge loads hauled out 303,675 lbs. We are preparing to load the final two barges this coming week with a combined weight of 703,174 lbs. Our record size reactor section that we featured in last months newsletter, will be on one of the last two barge loads to go out to B & W and Consumers Energy. While this project is coming to an end, we are also moving forward on new adventures.

Emmet County Recycling Phase II Is Underway Emmet County Recycling has passed another first milestone in the expansion of the facilities and are now looking forward to moving to Phase II. Moran Iron Works has once again been chosen to aid ERC in continuing efforts to revolutionize recycling for Emmet County. Phase II of the ERC project will include refurbishment of a Mosley Baler and conveyors, modification of existing conveyors, and several other plant modifications. This phase is the expansion of the plastics recycling that will allow Emmet County to accept additional types of plastics. Recycling plastics instead of production from petroleum products allows for the conservation of energy resources. Phase I included fabrication of enclosures, platforms, and refurbishing of existing equipment

New Plasma Table To Improve Production and Customer Services Moran Iron Works has added new technology to speed production and enhance customer service. The new CNC controlled plasma table is the latest addition to our list of quality, efficient machinery. The Vicon Monarch 8000 has a sheet capacity of eight feet wide and twenty feet long as well as the advanced capability of cutting pieces up to two inches thick. Not only will this offer the opportunity to lower costs, but it also offers the opportunity to make more intricate cut designs using the VISoft software included with the machine. It is a precision cutting machine that will drastically reduce waste material and operating costs resulting in increased customer satisfaction.

Employee Corner Welcome Nate Lavigne Moran Iron Works is always looking for the best of the best. Our latest team member addition is just one of those people. Mr. Nate Lavigne graduated in 2004. He immediately gained employment as a welder and is now a certified welder on our staff. In his spare time, Nate enjoys a ride on his motorcycle. You might say he is a bit adventurous as he decided to ride his motorcycle 1200 miles one way to Sturgis, South Dakota! If Nate is not working, or riding the bike, you will most likely find him playing billiards and having a relaxing time. Welcome Nate!
