Motion to approve, on the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following monthly expenditures and reports: 5.1.1

Approve the February 24, 2014 bill list in the amount of $596,462.72.

5.1.2

Approve the February 14, 2014 payroll in the amount of $3,474,733.61.

5.1.3

Approve the Treasurer’s Report for the month of January 2014.

5.1.4

Approve the Board Secretary’s Report for the month of January 2014.

5.1.5

Approve the Transfer Report for the month of January 2014.

5.1.6

Motion to certify that no major account or fund has been overexpended in violation of N.J.A.C. 6A:23-2.11(b) as of January 31, 2014 and that sufficient funds are available to meet the district’s financial obligations for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Motion to approve on the recommendation of the Superintendent the following Personnel action items: 5.2.1

Approve the retirement of Joan Cooper, Clerical Aide at Mount Olive Middle School effective July 1, 2014 with appreciation for twenty-five years of service to the Mount Olive Township School District.

5.2.2

Approve the appointment of Lumarys Mendez, Lunchroom/Recess Aide at Sandshore School at step one (1) $12.41 on the Aide Salary Guide, three (3) hours per day, five (5) days per week effective February 25, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year, replacing Kerri Jones. (Budgeted)

Approve the appointment of Theresa Trojahn, Van Aide in the Transportation Department, at step (1) - $12.41 per hour on the Aide Salary Guide, four (4) hours per day, five (5) days per week, effective February 19, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year, replacing Eva Pittigher. (Budgeted)

Approve the employment of Christine Thomas to provide 85.5 hours (4.5 hrs per week for 19 weeks) of ABA Therapy at home at $40.34 per hour for a total of $3,449.07 for the 20132014 school year. (Budgeted)

Approve the employment of Irma Nieves to provide 57 hours (3 hrs per week for 19 weeks) of ABA Therapy at home at $25.32 per hour for a total of $1,443.24 for the 2013-2014 school year. (Budgeted)

Approve the appointment of Karen Husser to the Gifted and Talented After School Coordinator position at CMS Elementary School at the stipend amount of $1,250 for the 2013-2014 school year.

Approve the employment of Thomas Morlock, substitute custodian at the rate of $11.75 per hour effective February 25, 2014 for the 2013-2014 school year.

Approve the payment of Saturday Detention at the hourly rate of $37.00 for the 2013-2014 school year.

Motion to approve on the recommendation of the Superintendent the following Business (finance and facilities) action items: 5.3.1

Adopt the following resolution to award the bid for the Boiler Replacement Project at Sandshore School: WHEREAS, the Mount Olive Board of Education, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-1, et seq., publicly advertised and solicited for sealed bids for State Project No. 3450-065-14-1006-G04, Boiler Replacement at Sandshore School; and WHEREAS, in accordance with that advertisement, the bids were received, publicly opened and read aloud in the Office of the Business Administrator, 89 Route 46, Budd Lake, NJ on February 6, 2014; and WHEREAS, the budgeted amount for the entire project is $339,900; and WHEREAS, Thassian Mechanical Contracting, Inc. submitted a bid in the total amount of $292,000, inclusive of bid alternates, for the removal/renovation/installation of the Boiler at Sandshore School; and WHEREAS, Thassian Mechanical Contracting, Inc. has been deemed to be the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for said removal/renovation/installation of the boiler at Sandshore School; and WHEREAS, the total cost of the project is under the project’s budgeted amount; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the bid be awarded as follows to: Thassian Mechanical Contracting, Inc., 641 State Route 36, Belford, NJ 07718 in the amount of $292,000, subject to the terms and conditions of a contractual agreement pending review by Board counsel, and which the Board President is authorized to execute on behalf of the Board.

5.3.2

Adopt the following resolution to award the bid for the Roof Renovation Project at Mt. Olive High School: WHEREAS, the Mount Olive Board of Education, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-1, et seq., publicly advertised and solicited for sealed bids for State Project No. 3450-010-14-1002-G04, Roof Renovations at Mt. Olive High School; and WHEREAS, in accordance with that advertisement, the bids were received, publicly opened and read aloud in the Office of the Business Administrator, 89 Route 46, Budd Lake, NJ on January 24, 2014; and

WHEREAS, the budgeted amount for the entire project is $839,420; and WHEREAS, Arch Concept Construction, Inc. submitted a bid in the total amount of $796,491, inclusive of bid alternates, for the removal/renovation/installation of the roof at Mt. Olive High School; and WHEREAS, Arch Concept Construction, Inc. has been deemed to be the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for said removal/renovation/installation of the roof at Mt. Olive High School; and WHEREAS, the total cost of the project is under the project’s budgeted amount; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the bid be awarded as follows to: Arch Concept Construction, Inc., 351 West Clinton St., Haledon, NJ 07508 in the amount of $796,491, subject to the terms and conditions of a contractual agreement pending review by Board counsel, and which the Board President is authorized to execute on behalf of the Board. 5.3.3

Adopt the following resolution to award the bid for the Roof Renovation Project at Tinc Road School: WHEREAS, the Mount Olive Board of Education, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-1, et seq., publicly advertised and solicited for sealed bids for State Project No. 3450-070-14-1007-G04, Roof Renovations at Tinc Road School; and WHEREAS, in accordance with that advertisement, the bids were received, publicly opened and read aloud in the Office of the Business Administrator, 89 Route 46, Budd Lake, NJ on January 24, 2014; and WHEREAS, the budgeted amount for the entire project is $1,422,136; and WHEREAS, Northeast Roof Maintenance, Inc. submitted a bid in the total amount of $1,198,099, inclusive of bid alternates, for the removal/renovation/installation of the roof at Tinc Road School; and WHEREAS, Northeast Roof Maintenance, Inc. has been deemed to be the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for said removal/renovation/installation of the roof at Tinc Road School; and WHEREAS, the total cost of the project is under the project’s budgeted amount;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the bid be awarded as follows to: Northeast Roof Maintenance, Inc., 649 Catherine Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861 in the amount of $1,198,099, subject to the terms and conditions of a contractual agreement pending review by Board counsel, and which the Board President is authorized to execute on behalf of the Board. 5.3.4

WHEREAS, the Mt. Olive Board of Education approved a terrarium project at Mount Olive High School at a cost not to exceed $10,500 on February 10, 2014; and WHEREAS, the actual vendor quotes received for the project exceed the cost estimate approved by the Board by $846.91; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Board hereby approves an increase in the “not to exceed” amount for the terrarium project at Mount Olive High School to $11,500; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Business Office is hereby authorized to process the purchase orders based on the quotes received.

Business Action Items for Board Meeting February 24, 2014

5.4

Motion to approve, on the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following Administrative action items: 5.4.1

Resolved, that the Board hereby amends the 2013-2014 school calendar to conduct a full instructional day on Monday, April 21, 2014 and a shortened instructional day on Friday, June 27, 2014 to make up for the utilization of two additional snow days; and Be it further resolved, that June 23, 2014 through June 25, 2014 shall be converted to full instructional days and June 26, 2014 shall be a shortened instructional day.

5.4.2

Resolved, that the Mt. Olive Township Board of Education hereby certifies that permission has been granted to apply for funds to support implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act for the purposes described in the application, in the amount of $127,380, starting on July 1, 2013 and ending on June 30, 2014.
