The Cape May Elks Lodge #2839 donated a brand new rolling walker for a student attending our Elementary #1 School. This student was born diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and his lower extremities (legs) are more involved than his arm. Currently, he is able to walk with a rolling walker. However, he has outgrown it and needed a new one. Thanks to the Elks Lodge, he now has this! Ms. Hodges spoke about the recent Black History programs that were presented to all schools. She thanked all the amazing advisors that put these programs together, as they did an amazing job. Mr. DeLollis spoke about Reading Night and thanked the principal for being invited again to read to the students. It is always a pleasure to be present at these events.

XVII. BOARD COMMENT Dr. Salvo addressed the Board and public present concerning Middle Township School District’s response to the tragic shooting in Parkland Florida. An All Staff email was sent regarding our procedures in the event of this type of incident. He also stated that the district has over 140 cameras to monitor all the buildings, panic buttons that turn on the strobe lights at the entrances and automatically notify police of an incident at the school building. All of the buildings have a form of mantrap that will not allow outsiders direct access to the school buildings. Each month, in addition to fire drills, evacuation drills and active shooter drills are performed in accordance with state regulations. Different scenarios are put forth for the staff and students to become aware of what to do in the event these things actually happen. Board members requested that Dr. Salvo and Ms. Fox explore the possibility of Class 3 officers for the school district and to add them to the budget being prepared for 2018-19. In addition, they requested that Mr. Webster be allowed to carry a gun within the school buildings and that this should be done as soon as possible.
