Emotionally Focused Family Therapy Training in November 2016

Restoring Family Bonds through Attachment and Emotion Family Therapy Training in EFFT – with Gail Palmer (Canada) & Jim Furrow (US) 2-day workshop: 4-5th November, Wellington - 9.00am to 5.00pm. (No prior EFT training is required)

Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) EFFT offers new insights and practical strategies for restoring relationships and strengthening the security of essential family ties. Based on the empirically supported practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, EFFT frees families from rigid relational patterns through the transforming power of emotion. As family members work through relational distress and past injuries new patterns emerge creating opportunities for deeper bonds and greater felt security. From this workshop participants will:   

Deepen their understanding of family distress using theories of emotion and attachment Explore clinical practices that transform the emotional experiences of parents and children Learn how to create bonding interactions that promote patterns of secure attachment between family members.

This is the first time EFFT training has been offered in New Zealand, and two Certified EFT Trainers who are the leading edge of developing EFFT come together for this unique learning opportunity. Dynamic presentations, demonstrations and experiential exercises bring EFFT to life. There will be a live demonstration of a family session (dependent on a suitable referral).

Who should attend this workshop? It is ideal for those working directly with families particularly where there is a focus more on attachment, nurturance and connection between family members, rather than on dimensions of power and control. EFFT frames emotional experiences between family members within a context of attachment theory, and works to create and maintain secure bonds. This approach will be of interest to counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, and social workers who are already working this way and/or want to explore such an approach. Others who don’t work directly with families can also benefit from attending – because the individuals and couples we work with are strongly impacted both by their past and current family life, and this workshop will enrich your clinical understanding of the context of your clients and increase your confidence in working with the family system.
